About Charlie
Charlie was born, educated and has lived in Hertfordshire his whole life with a commitment for one thing – service – with almost 15 years on the frontline locally and nationally.
He served two terms as a local councillor covering 8 years on East Hertfordshire District Council in one of the most deprived wards tackling anti-social behaviour and crime.
He worked for David Lloyd, Police and Crime Commissioner advising on a range of policy issues to help ensure Hertfordshire residents and victims have a voice.
He was Chairman of the Hertford and Stortford Conservative Association which during his time saw a record number of Councillors elected to office.
And after working on successive local and general election campaigns, he went on to work in Government as a Special Adviser to Prime Minister Rt. Hon Theresa May and Rt. Hon Michael Gove in a number of Departments. This included being at the heart of Government in the Cabinet Office responsible for UK preparedness in the event of a ‘No Deal’ scenario following the Brexit Referendum, and advising and challenging senior Ministers and Civil Servants during the Covid-19 pandemic. He was later appointed to the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities to advise on local Government finance, homelessness and the Government's anti- social behaviour strategy with the Home Office.
Since leaving Government, Charlie has gone on to advise local authorities, charities and businesses on best how to engage with Government.
He is also a broadcast commentator making regular appearances on Times Radio, GB News, Sky News, LBC, BBC, TalkTV and ITV.
Why Charlie for Police and Crime Commissioner?
There can be no greater responsibility for anyone in public service than to keep the public safe.
Charlie is looking to serve as Police and Crime Commissioner with a determination to ensure that residents, businesses and communities have someone who can campaign for, communicate to and collaborate with the public and local partners to cut crime, reduce reoffending and keep them safe.
Hertfordshire is one of the safest places to live in the Country. But with some types of crime increasing, anti-social behaviour persisting and repeat offenders constantly clogging up the courts system and continuing to negatively impact on peoples lives, Charlie believes he is the only candidate with the experience and skillset needed to fix these issues to make for a Safer Hertfordshire.
