My Plan

The election of the Police and Crime Commissioner will be one of the toughest that Hertfordshire will face.

Following a disappointing set of local elections last year coupled with current predictions we face in the polls, it is vital to select a candidate with the political, campaign and communications experience to return a Conservative PCC for Hertfordshire and build on the progress made since 2012 under David Lloyd.

The public have historically trusted the Conservatives with law, order and justice - and rightly so. We must therefore have a Commissioner who can fulfil the full functions of the role, to elevate it further and be able to identify the issues Hertfordshire faces and implement the right solutions.

Should you select me as your candidate, my 5 overriding principles for Office would be as follows:

1. More Police.

Building on the work already in place, we need to continue to recruit and retain more officers and increase visibility and patrols – all whilst expecting the highest of standards of our police and holding officers to account.

2. Cut Crime.

Continuing to reduce crime further by targeting specific types of crime - making Hertfordshire even safer.

3. Justice for Victims.

Speeding up court processes and a greater emphasis on restorative justice to deliver for victims.

4. Reduce Reoffending.

Work with a wider range of partners to target and identify individuals to help prevent crime with a focus on rehabilitation.

5. Value for Money.

Delivering on these principles while delivering value for money for Hertfordshire taxpayers.

With these five principles, I would lead a number of campaigns and programmes in collaboration with the police, local authorities, charities and a wide range of partners to highlight the current issues that Hertfordshire residents face in order to cut and prevent further crime.

  • Violence against Women and Girls

Working with schools, victims services, the NHS and others to ensure Hertfordshire is as safe as it can be for women and girls at risk of - or those suffering - domestic, sexual, physical or online abuse.
  • Fraud - particularly amongst the elderly

We hear all too often the elderly and vulnerable being targeted for scams and fraud. Working in partnership with Citizens Advice, Age UK, local authorities, social care services, the police and others - we need to raise awareness of the dangers to prevent residents becoming victims and catch the perpetrators.
  • Tackling anti-social behaviour: Troubled families and young people

This is a blight every community faces, but it doesn’t need to be this way. I would seek to develop a multi-agency programme that identifies the most troubled families and individuals across the county to help break the cycle of anti-social behaviour and offer support to those most at risk of falling into the criminal justice system.
  • Hate Crime and Discrimination

We’ve seen a nationwide rise in antisemitism, racism and hate crime against LGBT and minority ethnic groups. I will work with schools and businesses and the police to ensure the message is clear that Hertfordshire is a place for everyone, and where everyone has a right to feel safe.
  • Drug & Alcohol Addiction and mental health

Too many crimes are committed by those with a range of complex issues. A drugs trade has no place on the streets of Hertfordshire and a zero tolerance approach must be taken to dealers and those trading through the County lines.
  • Speeding, Vehicle theft and Fly-tipping

Too many road traffic accidents and car thefts take place in our County. I will work with the police to deliver the most effective speed awareness campaign and work in partnership with Hertfordshire County Council to identify and provide funding to the most affected areas. I would also ensure
  • Knife crime

Nobody needs to carry a knife or be in possession of one. I will lead a County-wide campaign working with schools, youth clubs and others in targeted areas to see dangerous knives handed in and taken off our streets and ensure police take a zero-tolerance approach to carrying a knife.
  • Burglary and Shoplifting

Burglary is a cruel and callous crime which violates the homeowner and leaves a lasting anxiety for the victims. I would challenge the police to ensure burglaries are responded to, cases followed up promptly and convictions increased.
